The International Space Station is infested with killer plants.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

After being saved from Stealth Robo, Shuttle 12 has docked with the International Space Station only to find it in the midst of an emergency, as an accident had taken place at Biosphere ISS4. The shuttle is thus used to help evacuate the staff, with Taiyoh, Lin and Kai heading inside to see if there are any trapped survivors. Shuttle Robo observes from outside the station, as the humans meet two astronauts who explain the genetically modified plants onboard have gone wild, taking over many areas of the station and causing huge amounts of damage. Down on the ground at Rescue Headquarters the other cadets watch the stars in the sky before they are called to the control room to provide support for the Red Wings members in space, who are beginning their search. Instructor Miyajima shocks the others by saying they're going to help - in Professor Suidōbashi's prototype Machine Commander, MC-X. Ace, Makoto, Alice, Daichi and Ken are tasked to fly the craft to the space station, and have to read the many volumes that make up its' manual. Meanwhile the trio on the station still haven't found anything, and Kai is becoming concerned that their oxygen is running low. As a result, Taiyoh sends Bone back to the shuttle as Miyajima directs them to the station's control room. In the hangar the Machine Robo wish the five going into space luck before their launch. Machine Commander takes off successfully and soon approaches the ISS.

Inside, Taiyoh's instincts lead them to a giant plant that is about to eat one of the astronauts, and he attacks it with an axe while Lin and Kai get the man to safety. After they get him under cover drops a bulkhead then Taiyoh blows the airlock, sucking the plant - and himself - out into space. The planet immediately freezes to death and Taiyoh lands on it just as lifepods begin to jettison from the station. Lin tells him they contain the killer plants and Taiyoh orders Shuttle Robo to destroy them before they can reach Earth. Tethering themselves to the station, Lin and Kai try to reach Taiyoh before his oxygen runs out, but are unable to bring him onboard. As Machine Commander arrives so does a Gura Gorro, with Shuttle Robo and the Space Robo moving to intercept. Despite drifting away, Taiyoh tries to activate the Shuttle Team's Hyper Mode - only for his K-BOY's battery to fail. The Machine Commander splits off its' shuttle modules, with Makoto, Ken, Alice and Daichi heading to help on the station while Lin, Kai and Ace take the main ship to rescue Taiyoh while Shuttle Robo and the Space Robo battle Gura Gorro. Inside Makoto's team uses acid cannon to destroy the hostile vegetation, while Taiyoh manages to float to one of the wrecked pods. There he finds the oxygen supplies damaged but uses a power cell onboard to recharge his K-BOY, allowing Ace to find him before his air runs out. He is then able to order the Shuttle Team into Hyper Mode. Gura Gorro begins attacking the Machine Commander but Hyper Shuttle Robo is soon able to take him out. The plants have been brought under control, and the cadets are then assigned to carry out a special inspection of the Moonbase before returning home - unaware that Stealth Robo and Jay are following them.

Continuity notes[edit | edit source]

  • Machine Commander is launched by the Slinger Bridge - a giant rubber band catapult, complete with the ubiquitous MRR branding.
  • Gadgets and Powers:
    • More goofy Gura Gorro adornments - this one travels into space strapped to an oversized firework and the same scuba mask seen in "Do You Like Hangars?".
