Makoto Aikawa is a human who works for Machine Robo Rescue as a member of the Blue Sirens, and Robo Master of Police Robo.

The 11-year old Makoto is strict and officious, with an almost sacred approach to laws, and can be slow to accept others who don't conform to his ideals - such as Blue Sirens team-mate Alice Beckham. He is an expert martial artist and has grown up dreaming of emulating his parents, members of the Metropolitan Police Force. Makoto's inflexibility can sometimes be a problem, though he can be talked around by the girls at times.

Makoto saw MRR as a stepping stone to a police career, and his terse attitude saw him immediately get off on the wrong foot with the hyperactive and tardy Taiyoh Ohzora, and his curt talk led to his fellow cadet attacking him - an assault Makoto easily deflected, effortlessly decking Taiyoh. The episode led to the whole class being put on hangar cleaning duty by an irate Musashi Miyajima, which nearly led to the pair fighting again before being separated by Daichi Hayami. However, Makoto was supportive when Taiyoh when into action with Jet Robo to save those trapped in the Landmark Building. Commence the Rescue Combination!! He was assigned to the Blue Sirens team and quickly gelled well with the Utada twins, though Alice was wary of his serious attitude. Blazing Fire Fighter! Makoto continued to clash Taiyoh, once again leaving the Red Wings cadet on his backside after a physical tussle. Soon after Blue Sirens got their first taste of action when a bank robber caused a multiple-car accident. Once the team arrived on scene he tasked Alice and the Bike Robo with clearing the wreckage while he and Police Robo moved towards a stranded driver. They were successful despite the arrival of a Gura Gorro, with Makoto getting Police Robo to activate a ZONE and fend off the attacker until the rescue could be completed. Straight Ahead to the Police Spirit! He, Taiyoh and Ace later discussed Daichi's habit of crying off from drills, though a squabble over the TV coverage of Police Robo compared to Jet Robo led to Makoto and Taiyoh fighting once more. It's Party Time! Drill Robo He showed his kinder side when Sayuri helped a boy named Hideki to find his missing cat Laura. Being asked by Sayuri, Alice and Lin was too much for even his adherence to the rules - even ignoring a direct order to return to base from Koshiro Sasaki - and it was Makoto who suggested they involve the Machine Robo in the search. He at least remained on script enough to remember to get Police Robo to activate a ZONE when the escapade attracted the attention of a Gura Gorro. Emergency! Enter Battalion Following his successful contribution to evacuating those threatened by the eruption of Mount Kaga, Makoto was officially anointed Robo Master of Police Robo. Aim to be a Robo Master!

Makoto again clashed with Taiyoh due to his patriotism when the pair watched news footage of Gyro Robo in action in America. Blue Sirens were then called into action at the Sunrise Dam, but the Gura Gorro threatening the power station was so engorged with power that Police Robo was unable to combat it; thankfully Sasaki had arranged for Gyro Robo to back the team up. Whirlwind! Gyro Robo He sat out the team's visit to the Utadas' parents but arrived to help when they came under Gura Gorro attack. Finished! Triple Tornado His parents were later among those who attended MRR's open day. And Taiyoh is Fine! The team were later sent in when the Machine AI Laboratory came under attack by Jay and Stealth Robo, though the Disasters pair had activated the Tank Robo and escaped before they arrived. The Invincible Hyper Stealth Robo! Makoto soon developed a reputation for punishing physical drills for Blue Sirens, which led to clashes with Alice - who used her acting skills to get out of them until Makoto became wise to her. He was still frustrated with her when the team were assigned to security of the new Takion high-speed train, though Alice was placed onboard with Makoto and the twins following. When the train was hijacked Makoto was lowered onboard by Gyro Robo and soon took out the hijackers themselves - who didn't realise that their sponsor Jay had put an actual working bomb onboard. Alice was then winched off the train to help Tsuyoshi activate Siren Galley Robo while Susumu deactivated the device, and the episode left Makoto and Alice with an enhanced respect for each other's particular skills. Arise! Siren Galley Robo

After Taiyoh and Jet Robo were knocked out of orbit by Stealth Robo battling near Ikaros 1, Makoto led the rescue efforts but was perplexed when Police Robo's attempts to throw up a ZONE was countered by Stealth Robo. He investigated further and eventually confronted Chief Bitou and the instructors, who later confessed the origins of Stealth Robo as an early Machine Robo. Good Luck Taiyoh With Lin and Kai Kitazawa still trapped in space a rescue mission was planned, and Makoto joined the other cadets in conspiring to get a shaken Taiyoh to pilot Shuttle Robo (a newly-reconfigured Jet Robo) to their rescue. Taiyoh Ohzora, Into Space! After the reunited Red Wings team visited the International Space Station and found it overran by mutated killer vegetation, Makoto was among the reinforcements sent up in the prototype Machine Commander, helping destroy the plants with acid before moving on to visit the Moon. Save the Space Station! There he found himself cast as a tree in Alice's production of The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter before a rockslide endangered miners at Moonbase 13; Makoto then helped coordinate the rescue work. Lunar Rescue, Begin!

Back on Earth he suggested Blue Sirens take the reporter Charmy Sato to a Crime Awareness event that involved Makoto cosplaying as Police Robo. However, Charmy's carelessly discarded banana peel resulted in injuries for all four members of the team. Makoto was later further infuriated when Charmy later gave Police Robo for a comedy award. MRR 24 Hours He and Alice later attended a road accident - one of several simultaneous incidents caused by the Disasters' new field commander Colonel Hazard. Enter! BL Machine Robo Hazard's appearance distracted Taiyoh enough to completely ruin a drill, resulting in Makoto swallowing gallons of water. Colonel Hazard's Trap! After Hazard used BL Fire Robo to take control of the Aider Robo, Makoto was less than sympathetic, provoking a fight with Ace that soon drew in Daichi and then Taiyoh. The quartet were then sent to South America, where they had to work together to use Machine Commander Robo to stop Hazard's new Catfish before helping Ace recover the Aider Robo. Combine! Machine Commander Robo When Sayuri took most of MRR on holiday to her island mansion, Makoto was among those either fairly elected or tricked by Alice to stay on duty. While he tried to put a brave face on it he and Sasaki were clearly resentful of not getting to go, resulting in attempts to attend the island on tenuous emergency grounds and a miserable camp-out next to Rescue Headquarters. Summer Holiday! Fear Vacation Perhaps as recompense the Blue Sirens were then given a tour of the communications airship Uranos 2, though the rest of the team largely ignored Makoto and Sasaki in favour of exploring. Which worked out for the best when Hazard attempted to take over the craft. He captured the three-man crew along with Sasaki and Makoto, regularly doling out electric shocks when Makoto repeatedly got his rank wrong. Thankfully the rest of the team were able to give time for Makoto's K-BOY to get him free, and with help from Machine Commander they were able to regain control of the airship after a battle with BL Police Robo. Airship SOS! Makoto was among those attending a ceremony at the Space Agency honouring MRR. Fortunately the arrival of Jay, Stealth Robo and BL Drill Robo saved the crowd from the planned tedious detailed lecture Makoto was going to give, and he instead helped evacuate the crowd. Impressed by his performance as a member of MRR, his father offered him an early transfer to the Metropolitan Police Force. In the meantime Makoto sustained a minor injury and met the young Doctor Aki Saotome at Rinkai General Hospital. Despite her chronic clumsiness Makoto was greatly impressed by her skill and immediately enchanted, and promptly agreed to a date with her. Despite the embarrassment brought on by the entire MRR organisation (bar a jealous Alice) seeing him off and the cadets spying on him the date went well, with a second being swiftly arranged on which he planned to present her with a beautiful necklace. However, unknown to Makoto, Aki was suffering from a terminal illness and collapsed moments after he left. The next day a fire broke out in the hospital's back-up generator and Makoto swiftly attended in Police Robo. The rest of Blue Sirens were able to talk him out of his suicidal decision to run in impulsively and helped Makoto find and rescue Aki; however, she expired moments after Makoto got her outside. In honour of her last words being her desire for him to keep saving lives he did not attend her funeral as Blue Sirens were on call at the time, though it was clear Aki was in his thoughts. The Story of Makoto's First Love

MRRE39-031Makoto.jpg

When an amnesiac Jay was recovered and brought to Rescue Headquarters, Makoto was outright hostile to the idea of forgiving the boy for his past actions on behalf of the Disasters, going to the extent of showing him extensive footage of the crises he and Stealth Robo caused. When Jay stole Red Commander to recover Stealth Robo, Makoto was unapologetic for his unilateral action and believed Jay's actions showed him to have been playing MRR, even refusing orders to give chase on the grounds he felt they were being led into a trap. He nevertheless begrudgingly joined the rescue attempts when a conversation with Taiyoh proving Jay's noble intentions was broadcast, allowing Stealth Robo to be saved from an underwater volcano. Be Reborn, Jay! However, Makoto remained wary of Jay, especially when he heard he might be recruited for MRR - believing that the brainwashing the Disasters subjected him to might resurface at any time. He was only partly mollified when Jay joined Taiyoh in rescuing Lin, Jun Mizushima and other hostages taken by BL Drill Robo. Jay, Join the MRR! Jay was allowed to join, but continued to annoy Makoto with his inability to recognise road signs. Nevertheless everyone voted Makoto and Blue Sirens to take Jay out for his first mission, which led to him overseeing the evacuation of a train the team were onboard when Gura Gorros took out a bridge. Jay meanwhile enthusiastically carried a pregnant woman to hospital before using the rebuilt V Stealth Robo to drive off the Gura Gorros. Later the group visited the birthing mother at hospital, where Makoto was assaulted by Alice for being impatient at the time she was taking to deliver the baby. Birth! V Stealth Robo Nevertheless he continued to question Jay, though the new recruit surprisingly expressed that he wanted Makoto to keep criticising him to improve his performance. The Strongest Combination! Machine Commander Robo V He was then assigned to keep Jay busy while Daichi organised a welcome party for Jay, organising some kendō training that instantly saw Jay give Makoto head injuries. Nevertheless the party went ahead, with Makoto's misfortune continuing as his injury didn't get him out of being the stooge for Lin's martial arts display. Daichi's Resolution When Alice was selected as Blue Sirens' representative at the Kansai Disaster Prevention Festival Makoto subjected her to a lecture on how she should carry herself, raising her ire. Later the Utadas found that without Alice present to absorb the bulk of Makoto's yelling they were getting a lot of scorn from him instead. Salute to the Gura Gorro

When the liner Poseidon collided with an oil tanker just off Rescue Headquarters, causing a freak subsonic noise that disabled the Leader Robo, Makoto and the Bike Robo helped evacuate the tanker's crew before joining Daichi in making towards the liner's control room, shutting down the engine and allowing Professor Suidōbashi to reboot the Machine Robo. Machine Robo Out of Action! Along with Alice, he was placed in charge of monitoring Jay's attempts to buy a bag of salt but once an increasingly surreal catalogue of events saw Jay jump into a river in search of a ticket to Ikaros 1 he grew bored and returned to base. The Greatest Errand of All Time He still had little time for Jay when they were assigned to train together in Machine Commander in an attempt to build some bridges between them - a decision which resulted in them having an all-out brawl in the cockpit and both accidentally ejecting, landing on Hell Island. There Makoto was soon captured by Gura Gorros and used by Colonel Hazard (who he once again aggravated repeatedly by getting his name wrong) and used as bait to draw Jay out. To Makoto's surprise Jay rescued him and the pair tried to escape through Hell Island. On the way not only did Makoto gather some important data on the ultimate plans of Doctor Kaiser but also gained a greater understanding of Jay's difficult life to date. They were rescued eventually by Police Robo and V Stealth Robo, though Jay's childhood companion F sacrificed itself to buy them time to escape - with Makoto saving its' heart-shaped CPU as a gift to Jay. Despite their intel, Kaiser-G was still able to activate after cutting off a volcanic island from the rest of the world, and soon proved equal to the combined Machine Robo effort to stop him, with Taiyoh and Jay seemingly lost. Activate, Kaiser-G! The rest of MRR were at least able to evacuate the island and went back into action to help those affected by Kaiser-G's messing with the Pacific volcanoes. When Taiyoh and Jay were able to make contact he joined Ace and Daichi in recovering them, only to be confronted by Hazard and BL Police Robo. While the group were able to eventually destroy both of them Kaiser-G had advanced to Tokyo, where he set the meteorite Tartarus on collision course with Earth. A Looming Catastrophe! MRR made a full-strength sortie into the city to try and fight Kaiser-G,. but Makoto and Hyper Police Robo - like the rest of the team - were unable to get close enough due to the monster's gravity powers pinning them into the street. Instead he joined the group of cadets who climbed inside Kaiser-G and planted explosives which would give Shuttle Robo and V Stealth Robo chance to destroy it and the meteorite, saving Earth. All Hands on Deck, Save the Planet! The end of the Disasters didn't end the need for MRR however, and the cadets had to carry out several rescues on their graduation day - with the rest of Blue Sirens even noting that Makoto had learnt some flexibility. Fly, MRR!

Following graduation, Sasaki returned to the Metropolitan Police Force as a commissioner, and oversaw the creation of their special Machine Robo branch - headhunting Makoto to command it with Police Robo and the Bike Robo. Despite their security checks being disrupted by Air Leon Sortie! he was able to successfully get Sayuri - now Prime Minister of Japan - to her destination safely, so she could deliver a rousing speech backing Chief Bitou's new International Hyper Rescue, fulfilling his dream of using his training to protect as many people as possible.
