As Zenjiro and Satoko had no children of their own they greatly enjoyed visiting their friends the Okano family in Hinosuke. However, Takezo's wife and son Yura were killed in a landslide. The couple continued maintained a close friendship with the cantankerous old man.
The Oigawas were recruited by Brad Bitou to look after the cadets, with Zenjiro acting as a caretaker of Rescue Headquarters' cadet dormitories. During the MRR open day he and his wife noticed Taiyoh was downcast at the other cadets having some sort of family present to visit them. As such they made a banner to support him in the mock battles between the Machine Robo and thereafter acted as parental figures to the boy, who had lost his own parents in a plane crash four years before. They later attended Charmy Sato's Who's the MVP? awards show. He later saw Makoto Aikawa off for his date with Aki Saotome. Zenjiro and his wife then took Taiyoh to visit the hot springs at Hinosuke, where Takezo now ran a spa. He volunteered Taiyoh to join the local fire brigade - also ran by Takezo - and explained the tragic reasons behind the man's curmudgeonly attitude to MRR. After MRR and the local brigade worked together to prevent another landslide engulfing the town, Taiyoh and Takezo developed enhanced respect for each other. Takezo was invited to join their strange extended family, and argued with Zenjiro over which of them was the uncle and which the father. He first met Jay when the amnesiac boy was brought to Rescue Headquarters and offered to help him carry a shipment of food for the cadets. Zenjiro and his wife later attended the welcome party thrown after Jay was inducted into MRR. They both looked on agog as Kaiser-G flew over Rescue Headquarters, towards the centre of Tokyo. Later, after preparing the cadets' dress uniforms, they proudly watched both Taiyoh and Jay graduate from MRR.
After the foundation of International Hyper Rescue, Zenjiro and Satoko both remained at Rescue Headquarters to take care of the new generation of recruits.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- It is heavily implied that the Oigawas' lack of children was not a choice.
