The Renegades are after EnergeX.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

Professor Braxis shows his latest scheme to his Renegade allies - targeting the Saltsea Fresh Water Plant, which separates salt from sea water, leaving a super fuel known as EnergeX. He has created the EnergeX Filter to harvest the compound, much to Cy-Kill's delight. Meanwhile, Matt Hunter and A.J. Foster are giving lube jobs to Leader-1 and Turbo at the AstroCorps motor pool. Bored, Scooter and Nick Burns set out to see more of Earth. As they go they talk about the need to stop the Renegades, even though neither are keen on fighting. Both are then suddenly ran off the road by Crasher, on her way to the Saltsea Fresh Water Plant. While they survive, Scooter is damaged and stuck in his vehicle mode. He tries to contact Leader-1 but his radio is damaged and he is unsure if the message got through; the pair then set off to find out what the Renegades are up to. At the plant, Braxis and Cop-Tur pump sleeping gas in through the air conditioning system, knocking out the staff. Scooter and Nick spot the Renegades and try to get away, though the Guardian's hologram projector malfunctions and projects an image of a caveman instead. He at least draws Cy-Kill and Crasher away, allowing Nick to reprogram the EnergeX Filter. However, he is spotted by Cop-Tur, who chases him out into an orchard. Inside, Crasher captures Scooter and taunts him before Cop-Tur arrives with Nick. An impatient Cy-Kill orders Braxis to start the machine without checking if Nick's tampering was successful, but the Filter seems to work and a bag begins to fill with EnergeX. Just then Leader-1, Turbo, Matt and A.J. arrive, smashing through the wall of the plant. The scuffle triggers an alert for the police, while Cy-Kill discovers that Nick's sabotage has meant instead of EnergeX the bag contains mere salt. The police then arrive and Cy-Kill throws the bag of salt at Scooter in frustration, though Matt blocks it. The Renegades run for it, with the Guardians giving chase - leaving Matt wondering how he and the cadets will explain things to the police.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • As with all the books in the Golden Hero series, which occupies a micro-continuity seemingly set in the aftermath of the "Battle for GoBotron" mini-series:
    • UNECOM is named as "AstroCorps", while Matt's rank is given as Captain.
    • Braxis is a professor, and has yet to be exposed as a traitor.
    • The GoBots are still unknown to the authorities on Earth, though Matt and the kids aren't actively on the run from the authorities.
  • Gadgets and powers:
    • Nick is a "super hacker".

Continuity and plotting errors[edit | edit source]

  • Matt goes all In the Line of Fire stopping a bag of salt from hitting Scooter.
