Hideki Sonoda (園田 英樹) (Born 1957) is a Japanese cartoon writer, with credits on the Pokemon franchise as well as Mobile Suit Victory Gundam and Captain Tsubasa. His professional career began in 1983, and three years later he was given the role of "Series Composition", effectively head writer for the show, on Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos for Ashi Productions, retaining the post for Machine Robo: Battle Hackers.

As such he took a major role in shaping the series' mythos - roughly the equivalent role of Jeff Segal on Challenge of the GoBots, though Sonoda seems to have read most of the scripts before they went into production. On the other hand he did also have a hand in the Leina Stol OVA series, so no-one's coming up smelling of roses here. He scripted 14 episodes of Revenge of Cronos as well, particularly those focused on the Stol clan's backstory. Sonoda also wrote 13 episodes of Battle Hackers and was later recalled as head writer of Machine Robo Rescue by Sunrise.
