MRR meet a hotshot journalist who will do anything for good TV.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

MRRE10-008Charmy.jpg

Machine Robo Rescue are the subject of a live report presented by flamboyant child reporter Charmy Sato. However, the attention is having mixed results, with instructor Miyajima notably suffering from stage fright, even requesting a retake after fumbling his 'lines' and requiring consolation from Chief Bitou and Marie. Red Wings launch in the Wing Liner with Charmy, his chief cameraman Kijima and his PA onboard. However, as soon as the broadcast cuts to commercial Charmy becomes tiresome and spoilt. The team are planning a drill at an industrial complex on a man-made island, which annoys Charmy who believes a mere exercise will not bring in the ratings he needs. As such after the Red Wings team arrive at the plant Charmy decides to update the script for the cadets, planning to stage a fault in the fire prevention facility that Ace will have to tackle. Plant controller Takada expresses concern. Taiyoh and Lin accuse Charmy of taking things too far, but he dismisses their concerns and bullies Takada into briefly deactivating the fire prevention systems. This is the final straw for Kijima, who quits and hands Charmy his camera. The reporter is unfazed, and simply appoints Kai as a replacement. Ace's over-acting of the system being offline and then 'repaired' is then broadcast, easily fooling Miyajima - though Alice is less gullible. However, Charmy is left alone in the control centre and switches off other safeguards to increase the excitement - just as a Gura Gorro heads towards the complex. Takada escorts them to the lowest level of the complex, where Charmy promptly lets off a flare as even Ace's patience with the reporter begins to wear thin. Taiyoh senses the Gura Gorro as it reaches the underwater section of the industrial complex and prepares to attack.

Ace 'puts out' the flare but the Gura Gorro slices away the chains holding the central island complex in place before starting to cut through the underwater walls of the complex. Taiyoh takes control of the situation and Ace begins to combat the real fires now sprouting up, only to find the extinguisher is nearly empty. Charmy is delighted until Taiyoh gives him a dressing down. The damage causes a large explosion on the complex as Arias calls Fire Robo and the Aider Robo into action as the island they're on starts to float towards the other sections of the complex. The Gura Gorro isn't done yet and attacks Fire Robo, who quickly activates a ZONE. Watching from the base, Chief Bitou orders the Jet Team launched to support the operation, as the Red Wings cadets are unable to bring the blaze underground under control, with Charmy still more interested in making his show exciting. Taiyoh instructs Ace to head to help Fire Robo while he tries to reactivate the automatic systems while Lin and Kai try to see what they can do about the impending collision - planning to switch Wing Liner to Robo Mode, something which Chief Bitou thinks is a great idea. Still oblivious to the danger, Charmy follows Taiyoh to the Safety Control Room. Meanwhile Fire Robo is struggling against Gura Gorro until Arias reaches the deck and activates Hyper Mode, while Lin and Kai begin transforming Wing Liner. Taiyoh and Charmy reach the Safety Control Room but is is mostly flooded - wrecking the reporter's camera, though he keeps recording on his watch as Taiyoh plunges underwater to reactivate the safety systems. The sprinklers soon put out the fires while Hyper Fire Robo bicycle-kicks the Gura Gorro around and defeats it. Meanwhile the huge Wing Liner Robo gets into the water and uses its' strength to prevent the islands colliding. Taiyoh and Charmy appear having escaped the flooded control room just as the Jet Team appear overhead. Charmy's plans to broadcast the full story is foiled when his waterlogged watch malfunctions, giving him multiple electric shocks - much to the amusement of the Red Wings team.

Continuity notes[edit | edit source]

  • With Charmy Sato present the MRR cadets are forced to don dress hats that look like inverted diapers.
  • As a stage actress, Alice seems very snooty about television.
  • For some strange reason Wing Liner Robo's transformation is hand-powered. It appears to have even less of a personality than the Supporter Robo.
  • Gadgets and Powers:
    • The Gura Gorro is equipped with blades, allowing it to use the Scissors Rush attack and the Fire Ball Attack, which is exactly what it sounds like. It mentions Stealth Robo, who doesn't appear in the episode.
    • Hyper Fire Robo uses the Hydra Flusher attack to defeat the aforementioned Fire Ball Attack.
    • Charmie Sato appears to punch through a door.

Continuity and plotting errors[edit | edit source]

  • Wait, so Wing Liner had a robot mode all this time and they just didn't bother using it? Arias doesn't even seem to be aware of it.
  • How do the Safety Control Center's computers work fine under several feet of water?
