List of GoBots promotions

Just because a company didn't make any GoBots merchandise didn't mean it couldn't get its' nose in the trough. Like many popular toylines of the 1980s to the present day, promotions for GoBots stuff were used by cereal companies, fast food chains and other child-aimed products.

Promotions[edit | edit source]

Cheetos[edit | edit source]

Marked packets of Frito-Lay's Cheetos contained free GoBots stickers, and the back of the packet had information for a competition to win Super GoBots.

The promotion ran from 7 October to 1 November 1985

Donkey Kong Junior & Cookie-Crisp[edit | edit source]

Ralston Purina ran a promotion to get GoBots watches for just $4.95 as opposed to the $12.95 RRP, in exchange for three proofs of purchase from their Donkey Kong Junior and/or Cookie-Crisp cereals. The advert for the promotion only shows Tic Toc; whether Gong was part of the deal is unknown.

ScotTowels & Scott Family Napkins[edit | edit source]

Marked packets of these two Scott Paper Company products included a chance to enter a competition for one of 200 sets of 12 Super GoBots - i.e. the complete first two series. You could win 200 bundles of three Pound Puppies instead, but that's not much of a prize compared to GoBots, is it?

The promotion ended on 3 December 1985.

Wendy's[edit | edit source]

Tonka themselves ran a promotion for an exclusive green/purple recolour of the Monster GoBot Creepy in 1985, in exchange for four proofs of purchase from GoBots. The promotion was advertised in newspapers, which included a coupon alongside some specially-commissioned art, and a TV commercial was made to promote the offer.

Kool Aid Vault[edit | edit source]

KoolAidVaultPromo.jpg

Kraft Heinz's Kool Aid powdered drink concentrate brand ran the Kool Aid Vault promotion into 1987 that included numerous Tonka toys, available for points gathered from Kool Aid products. For 35 points each (plus 50¢ shipping and handling) kids could get Beamer, Breez or Pow Wow. The text of the adverts for the promotion referred to these as "exclusives", which was either a fib or suggested that the promotion with Wendy's that the figures were most famous for being part of had ended. It is not known if these toys were overstock or a fresh production run, and each came with a paper instruction leaflet instead of a printed backing card.
