Big Machine Robo was an assortment issued by Bandai as part of Machine Robo in 1985. It nominally consisted of scaled-up versions of toys used in the Machine Robo Series, though in practice the ethos was more varied. The toys retailed at ¥1650, aside from Big Trailer Robo - who cost ¥2650 due to his additional trailer.

Two of the figures - Big Bike Robo and Big Eagle Robo - were clearly modelled on Machine Robo Series figures, with some engineering changes due to their larger size. Two - Big Shuttle Robo and Big Apache Robo - shared vehicle modes with figures from the Machine Robo Series but had completely different configurations in robot mode. And finally Big Trailer Robo had nothing in common with his alleged smaller counterpart.

All five figures were issued as Super GoBots by Tonka as part of GoBots and Bandai themselves as part of Robo Machine with some changes. Big Truck Robo was also issued as the Staks Transport set.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • As the range was issued with GoBots in full swing, featured large versions of both Western faction leaders and mainly featured contemporary American vehicles it is possible Tonka had some influence on the choice of figures for the range.
