Machine Robo »

Machine Robo was a hit for Popy and Bandai, who soon diversified beyond mere action figures. Though nowhere near as much as Tonka did for GoBots.

Toys[edit | edit source]

Cheaper versions of a couple of figures were made by Popy's budget subsidiary Victora for sale at kiosks, though there was little fat to be trimmed from the Machine Robo Series and the resulting all-plastic cheapo versions didn't cost much less than the ¥600 the regular figures cost. Instead, Popy and then Bandai switched instead to carded versions of the normal releases for the budget line.

Model Kits[edit | edit source]

Machine Robo Series[edit | edit source]

As a cheaper alternative to the Machine Robo Series, gashapon plastic model kits figures were made for distribution in capsule machines. A first series of eight figures in 1985, followed by four more. Each kit was moulded in a single colour of plastic, and would require considerable painting to look anything like the regular figures.
