Daichi's father tries to trick him into joining the family business.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

MRRE43-027JaySpeech.jpg

Daichi visits his ill father Yudai, who has been impressed by his son's growth at Machine Robo Rescue and believes he is ready to take over presidency of Hayami Heavy Industries, the family business. On a subsequent day out with Sayuri, Daichi is distracted, something she picks up on. When they return they find Taiyoh is planning a welcome party for Jay. In order to keep the preparations a secret Jay has been sent off for kendō training with Makoto, though naturally he almost immediately becomes bored and ends up braining Makoto with a shinai. Back inside everyone realises Taiyoh's planned schedule is terrible, and instead Daichi volunteers to handle the organisation. Back at Hayami Heavy Industries it becomes clear that Yudai was faking his illness to get Daichi involved in the business, believing his stint in MRR has served its' purpose of manning the boy up. Daichi is remembering some of his father's attempts to toughen him up that night as Drill Robo goes past doing a fire awareness patrol. The next day is the surprise party, and surprise is certainly the word for Jay's reaction, though everyone is very kind as he delivers a bizarre, stilted speech as guest of honour. The entertainment begins, with Taiyoh putting on a 'ventriloquist' act with Bone; Lin putting on a martial arts show with the hapless Makoto as a piece of equipment; Alice showing that singing is not one of her talents; the instructors and Chief Bitou putting on a kabuki play during which Miyajima embarrasses himself by getting his love for Marie confused with her character; and the Utada brothers racing to build models of Jet Robo. Throughout all of this Jay mainly focuses on consuming huge amounts of food. Daichi is distracted, however, and remembers his father explaining that Hayami Heavy Industries was his way of rescuing people, by using it to spread technology and gainful employment around the world. His reverie is disrupted when he's told by Shō and Ken that he will be joining their act on stage as the Yellow Funnies. Their act revolves poking fun at the Yellow Gears dynamic of Daichi and Sayuri being their loving parents, leading to Daichi going off-script and declaring that all of MRR are a family. However, the following morning he hands in his resignation to Chief Bitou.

The cadets belatedly realise that his words at Jay's party were a farewell speech, and Sayuri tells him of his father's offer of taking over Hayami Heavy Industries. Makoto says if it's Daichi's decision they will have to accept it. However, when his father shows him around the facilities for Hayami Heavy Industries' planned international expansion they find a trio of Gura Gorros stealing the special metal, which begins to react. Daichi alerts Rescue Headquarters, with Yellow Gears and the Stealth Team setting out in response. Drill Robo, Fire Robo and Jet Robo are soon on the scene in Machine Commander and the Machine Robo begin tackling the fires. Gear Dump also arrives and Daichi gets Sayuri and Shō to treat his parents for smoke inhalation. As the Gura Gorros break free and begin to attack Sayuri presents Daichi with his K-BOY, having brought it along in case he wanted to use it. He activates Machine Commander Robo and explains to Jay that he now realises the family he wants to protect is bigger than just his parents, and he can protect more people as part of Machine Robo Rescue. They activate the V Combination, and Machine Commander Robo V activates a ZONE. Despite being outnumbered 3 to 1, Daichi's determination leads to an impressive victory - and another failure for Colonel Hazard, though Kaiser-G forgives him as he is needed to find energy for the Disasters' main plan. At Hayami Heavy Industries the fire is brought under control and the area made safe. Daichi tells his father that he feels he should stay with Machine Robo Rescue due to it being something he believes in with all his heart. His mother agrees, and tells him there's nothing wrong with his father's health. While disappointed, Yudai is impressed by his son's strength and passion for rescue work, and decides to see which one of them can help the most people as Daichi rejoins MRR.

Continuity notes[edit | edit source]

Continuity and plotting errors[edit | edit source]

  • Saeko Homura has a completely different personality to that seen in "I am the Mother of Daichi", where she made basically the same realisation her husband does in this episode. Maybe Yudai's been gaslighting her too.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Poor Jay, it looks like being friends with Taiyoh is much harder work than being his enemy.
  • Tōru Suidōbashi isn't at the party whereas the various unnamed rarely-seen MRR technicians and the occasional doctor are. Harsh. Come to think of it does the dorm have ramps?
