The watch was an item of GoBots merchandise produced in association with French TV station TF1 to promote Le Defi des GoBots, the localised dub of Challenge of the GoBots that they aired.

Le Defi des GoBots[edit | edit source]
- ? (1985)
- The watch was a promotional item manufactured on behalf of TF1 by AVI in 1985, who also produced wristwatches for licences including Mask and Thundercats. Instead of using the GoBots watches produced by Impulse the figure used is actually based on the Watch Robo from Takara's Micro Change line. While this would come out as the imaginatively-named Transformers: Generation 2 figure Autobot (G2) in 1993 under the Transformers brand, the toy spent most of the eighties being bootlegged by anyone going. As the Defi des GoBots release seems to have nothing to do with Bandai it is likely that TF1 simply arranged for AVI to produce a quantity of watches for them, likely in good faith and possibly even officially licenced from Takara considering what toy production was like at the time, and slapped them on a card featuring the logos of the channel and the series, as well as the character model for Proto.
- How these watches were distributed, whether colours other than blue were used or whether they were given any sort of name is currently unknown.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- By a bizarre coincidence the Micro Change watch, or more likely a bootleg thereof, was used as reference art for Matt Hunter's wrist-watch in the World Distributors storybook "Champions of Lixil".
