Please add storylinks to the individual articles when writing up charater pages. Escargon (talk) 16:24, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, thought I had been. Carry-All (talk) 16:32, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
You did add to the main overarching article, but like TFWiki, it should be to the individual chapters.
I will say, thank you for coming on and adding all this stuff. Life's been catching up with me lately so I didn't see your edits till today, but I always appreciate new editors adding content. Escargon (talk) 16:42, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
Not a problem, sometimes it do be like that =) will probably branch out beyond the RM comic as my week allows Carry-All (talk) 16:44, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

I've elected to promote you to admin level, due to all the hard work your doing, and the fact that I'm not around as much to take care of things. I'll continue to be around as much as I can, but feel free to use your best judgement when working on things. Escargon (talk) 15:51, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Thank you very much! =) I shall try not to break anything! =) Carry-All (talk) 15:58, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

When writing fiction sections, please write fro m an in-universe perspective; i.e., no "near the end of the series," etc. Otherwise, keep up the good work. Escargon (talk) 00:47, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Ooops! No problem, thanks for the pointer! =) Carry-All (talk) 07:08, 30 July 2021 (UTC) I will flesh out the Revenge of Cronos sections with proper episode links etc. at some point, just trying to get the framework and some basics up and running before I plunge into a rewatch of the series. Carry-All (talk) 07:10, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Just gonna let you know, college is back in session, so I'll be around a lot less. Keep up the good work! Escargon (talk) 14:56, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

No problem, thanks! Carry-All (talk) 16:44, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

I've gone back through and put back in some of those notes: if there's any you feel should be re-instated, let me know. I do think that the bits about the female GoBots could probably stand to be re-written along the lines of "while those more familiar with the GoBots cartoon etc. etc.", so feel free to do that if you want. I also kept your synopses; hopefully I didn't screw them up, as I'm using a loan computer while mine is being repaired. Escargon (talk) 12:55, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Cool, it might be I'm just coming at it wrong. But it just seems to be that the Gobot references sections of the IDW pages are a slippery slope. If we're going to list differences from Challenge we need to list all of the differences from Challenge, from Leader-1 being a psychopath right through to Staks being orange; if we're going to list references and explanations about what toys characters represent, we need to list all of the references and explanations, from the cute use of the Command Center's stickers and the Lazer Lance to Mr. Moto being in a frame. At the moment they don't do either. I'm cool with either, though I do personally think over-detailing on those pages goes against the point of having a Wiki where someone can click on Spay-C's name and find out all about Spay-C. Carry-All (talk) 14:42, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Thought this might be of interest. Jim Sorenson has and has allowed linking via the Sunbow Marvel Archive, the outline for Starquest (the Go-bots movie). Very different from Battle Of The Rock Lords. Clearly written with the mindset of "Go-bots will continue" rather than "Go-bots is dead, we're doing Rock Lords now." --Greebtron (talk) 06:04, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Excellent, thank you, I shall check that out! :) Carry-All (talk) 22:31, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

Episode order[edit source]

Don't revert it!

I know people for some reason don't like when someone else except them makes edits on COMMON recourses but this is how it really works. This is wiki project where everyone are welcome to improve articles. Why making a useful edit should every time be such a pain? Every time it looks like this: do a job, supplement information, competently describe everything, rejoice that you have improved information for the community, and then you think - will some "king" come in 3 days to simply cancel everything without explaining any reasons? You reverted the edit, but you forgot to specify the REASON. And there is no reason for this. I did a lot of work just this autumn, wrote out the key events of the series and I generally agree with the permutation of the series described in the article, but there is a mistake that many series moved up, then the problem is mainly episode 7, which simply must be moved down. As for ep 8 - I had a direct text written why this episode should not move down – the guardians for the first time deserve general's trust in the end, and in other episodes they already work with him in all. God, what's a bad habit of just taking and rolling off articles to some "own" version without checking and thinking???

Martial Arts Robo[edit source]

Hi! Thanks for all your hard work. I'm wondering if you or I could change the names of a few of these characters from circumflex vowels to the more standard macron (diacritic). I didn't want to do anything unilaterally and cause drama.

This character represents Shorinji Kempo, and the official spelling they use is "Kempō".

Evan199X (talk) 22:03, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Sounds good! Only slight hiccup: I have no idea how to do a site-wide change. We can move the articles no problem, but it will create redirects. =) Carry-All (talk) 22:23, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

There really isn't one, at least not built into the wiki software. Unless you've got a bot to handle the workload, any and all links will have to be updated manually. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 22:51, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! Oh well, as long as we get it accurate! =) Carry-All (talk) 22:58, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
I've started the process of moving all three; should be finished shortly. Kenryû should probably get the same treatment, along with any others using circumflex in the name. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 23:34, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
Incredible, thank you! I'm happy to do Kenryu, which should it be instead? Kenryū? I *think* that might be it for the guys with circumflex in the names Carry-All (talk) 23:37, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
Yep, that's it exactly. I've already changed all the Jūdō Robo links accordingly, so I'll get the other two now. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 23:45, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
And that's all three. I've got some time to spare, so I'll take care of Kenryū while I'm at it. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 00:04, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
I am in awe of your speed and hugely grateful for your help! Thank you =) Carry-All (talk) 00:10, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
No problem! I just took care of the last of the Kenryūs, so it's safe to delete those circumflex redirects now. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 00:18, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
Incredible! Thank you =) Carry-All (talk) 00:23, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Apologies[edit source]

Apologies, again, for leaving you alone for so long. I've been working on other projects, and I haven't really had time to look over this as much as I wish, and now that the next semester of college is starting up again I'll have my attention focused elsewhere again. Thank you for keeping up all this work getting this wiki into shape, you've been a massive help towards improving this place. Please, keep up all the great work! Escargon (talk) 18:37, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you, and no problem! Please don't apologise, keep working at college so you don't end up with a job so mindless you can't edit a GoBots Wiki while doing it! =D Carry-All (talk) 18:50, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Rock Lord Prototypes[edit source]

I've made scans of my 1986 Tonka US catalog Rock Lord pages at 600 DPI. I'm still sorting through the individual character images, but doing the scans at such hi-rez has revealed that there are a lot more prototypes in it than at first glance. Aside from the stuff I've already uploaded here, for the time being here's Nuggit, who seems to be represented by two different protos in the book. On one of them, the head looks to be different from the final, with an optic/"eye" bigger than the other like his HB animation model. The other one doesn't look as obviously different to me, but does have an eye color that's different from the final.

Also in this gallery is a Red-Headed Boulder, who randomly shows up in one group shot in the '86 catalog. I'm not sure any of the other "second prototypes" do... if you don't mind me asking, where do most of the pics of the second protos come from? My Tonka US '87 catalog looked like it used finals for all the Series 1-2 toys, and some of the pics of them on the site look like individual product photography. --Monzo (talk) 15:26, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi! Welcome aboard and thanks for the additions! The Rock Lords pages definitely need some more love. I *think* the second prototypes for Boulder and Slimestone were taken from the cards; the Boulder is pictured in the on the back of the first series card and on the back of the first mini-comic; Slimestone is from his character card (with a second picture of the same version on the back of the 1986 S2 figures). I'm afraid I can't recall at the moment where the ones of Marbles and Pulver-Eyes came from beyond it being some sort of catalogue, or even possibly a Japanese magazine (which surprisingly ran a few different items on GoBots and Rock Lords beyond Japan). Marbles seems to be slightly different to the version shown on his collector's card. Those two might possibly be from the 87 European catalogue, which I only have fragments of. Some of the images I'm working from have been lounging on DVD-Rs for well over a decade I'm afraid and some are hard to source.
Carry-All (talk) 18:24, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
Whatever it is it's the same source as this: https://www.fulguropop.com/2019/10/19/dossier-vintage-rock-lords-brimstone-bandai-1986/ - the factions-in-a-circle and use of Bolder / Sticks and Stones are consistent with the sort of thing Euro catalogues did, so I'm thinking the 1987 Rock Lords catalogue.
Carry-All (talk) 18:27, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
Ah, thank you for the info! Unfortunately, I don't have any Bandai catalogs from Europe, but it's good to know what the source might be. This line sure went through a lot of prototyping.
Speaking of, I've added the '86 Granite and Magmar prototypes to the imgur gallery.
imgur.com/a/0RmG5LG
I *thought* Magmar was an identical sculpt to the final just in different colors, but comparing it with the released toy, his shoulder vents are molded differently and his head seems to protrude more. Meanwhile, Granite's face looks far less gorilla-like, and his hands and shins are differently-shaped.
... by the way, is there a way to get my links set as not link-spam? --Monzo (talk) 19:33, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Oooh, those are some good pics! It is crazy how much of the prototypes ended up printed in official material, when you throw in the two Stoneheads and Fossilsaurus there was a lot of work done that didn't see the light of day for the line...
I'm afraid I don't know about the link thing, I'm more an admin by accident and I just try not to break things sorry =(

Toyland[edit source]

I wasn't sure how else to get this to you, but a while ago I purchased a copy of Toyland: The High-Stakes Game of the Toy Industry, a 1990 book about the US toy industry (which, well, duh). The section on Hasbro featured interviews with Tonka executives on the battle between GoBots and Transformers in the toy aisles. I scanned the relevant pages as a PDF.

File:Toyland Pgs 118-120.pdf

Some interesting market background... but also an assertation that they'd put out two GoBots miniseries before they went to series. That would align with the idea of The GoBotron Saga being meant as a follow-up to the pilot, but... as far as I know, we have no evidence that it ever aired that way. So I don't know if this exec was misremembering events, or if there's some missing puzzle piece out there, or what... --Monzo (talk) 12:40, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

Wow, some excellent solid figures there on stuff which has been theorised but never solidly proven, especially about the very short life of the American Machine Men! Fascinating thanks! To me the GoBotron Saga HAD to have been originally intended as a regular series premiere at some stage but for whatever reason didn't come close for reasons we'll sadly probably never know. Production-wise it's a really strange mix, featuring some characters who were missing from many of the early broadcast episodes but also featuring some super-weird touches like the strange handling of Courageous, while the last episode of it has always felt like it was a hurried re-write, and it's always struck me as curious that most of the writers beyond Segal and Ward did so little else for the series. All I can really guess at is the more complicated storyline/production was somehow delayed and H-B/Wang had to get on with making whatever scripts were ready to go, with various other touches being more established by the time it went into production. Which would also answer why early broadcast episodes are so vague about giving any solid answers and often featured such minimal appearances from other characters. The odd thing is why some forty episodes got made first, but then I have a pet theory that a *lot* of the episodes in the second half of the run were semi-abandoned/patched up scripts just thrown out to make up the numbers, sometimes with "new characters" patched in later on - it's where the really incoherent stuff like "Ring of Fire" and "Renegade Carnival" are, and the stuff with new characters suspiciously taking over functions of older characters such as "The Gift" and "Terror of Atlantis" are. By all accounts and appearances, COTG's schedule and production was brutal even by the standards of the time and I think any ambitions the production team had to make a quality show were quickly abandoned to the extent where very early drafts of some scripts were filmed.

People magazine[edit source]

I bought a copy of People magazine from December 1984 (12/03/1984) that had a GoBots / Transformers article in it and scanned the relevant pages.

imgur.com/a/H5PpsGu

There's some sales numbers, although the most interesting bit may be the photo of Tonka's president at the time. Well, and Tonka's unusual confidence in Star Fairies, but that didn't really go anywhere...

(I put this message above Agent 47's to keep continuity with our other communications, but feel free to move it below if you want.) --Monzo (talk) 12:00, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

SUPERB find! I got myself lost a bit in MRR and burnt out, so I'm hoping to get back to basics for a while and that's some great stuff to start with! Thank you for sharing =) Carry-All (talk) 21:30, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

Communication with other users[edit source]

Hello, Carry-All. I have to admire the sheer work you have put into this wiki since effectively taking it on yourself. If you want to talk with other users in a format outside of ShoutWiki talk pages, then here is the link to the TFWiki Discord server. https://discord.gg/N99Bygq This site may not get nearly as much traffic as the main site, but you can solicit help from other users in the relevant Discord channel and discuss GoBots in general as needed. S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk) 06:03, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

Thank you very much, that is very kind. I have burnt out a little at the moment and TBH am not sure interaction with TFWiki editors is likely to be a solution considering the way a small handful act, but I do appreciate the offer =) Carry-All (talk) 08:49, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

Fun Publications[edit source]

Hi, Carry-All, I apologize for being away for so long, I've been getting even more busy than I anticipated with school so I've largely had my off-time focused on the main TFWiki. I wanted just to come in real quick and say that, regarding your edit to Fun Publications, please try in the future to not editorialize about real-world companies as such in the future. Otherwise, keep up the good work, I've been impressed with what I've gotten to read of your Machine Robo additions. Escargon (talk) 12:08, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Might be a lot of it to undo if that counts as editorialising; it's funny you should mention TF Wiki as it would be a shame if that site's cliques and hypocrisies regarding apparent editorialising spread here as well, and the Fun Publications page certainly needs something to say that their fiction wasn't available by the same channels as, say, COTG or IDW, and it's a shame that some with conflicts of interest (either as material contributors or subscribers) take umbrage with that. It's not a hill I'm particularly interested in dying on but it would a sad state of affairs to have this sort of thing dictated by the sister site's users. Consistency should be king, and if you remove all stuff poking fun at real-world companies the articles would be incredibly dry, and to say it's okay to poke gentle fun at Tonka or World or Hanna-Barbera but not FP would be a worrying double-standard. Carry-All (talk) 09:42, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
Why do you hate Fun Publications material so much? Renegade Rhetoric never claimed to be a full-scale cartoon project, and never made claims of having a grandiose audience. And without it, you would have next to no 21st century GoBots material, certainly not enough to inspire other people to have started the GBWiki as a spin-off of the TFWiki in the first place so that we would be having this conversation. S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk) 10:01, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
Hate is strong word. I find them funny because some of it (especially AVP) is terrible fanboy dreck, largely designed to settle old Transformers arguments. And while the material didn't claim as such early stages of this Wiki certainly didn't do enough to make that clear. Sure it might have played its' part in getting this Wiki set up as a stack of stubs but should it be beholden to that? It would be a shame to have this wiki dictated by the feelings of a few people who gave up on it years ago. A wiki is surely a collaborative, evolving project. Because having edited it a lot over the past year I've not really noticed any particular hands-on work from the TFWiki side of things (in fact deafening silence) and would go as far to describe it as abandoned and often misleading. There's been nothing said about FunPub that's any harsher than anything said about basically any other concern involved in GoBots, Machine Robo and their various derivatives, so why should the Fun Pub material be above that?
Incidentally, it's noteworthy that Jumbo Jet Robo wasn't picked up by FunPub where the other skipped MR600-era figures were. If you don't like the way it's written re-write it, don't cut information off a page unilaterally. Carry-All (talk) 00:37, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

Imgur links broken[edit source]

Hey, you haven't edited for the wiki in a long time, so I'm not sure this will reach you (or anyone), but I noticed that multiple of the Imgur links for scans of the books, specifically the 1986 and 1987 UK Robo Machine Annuals and the Mini World books, are no longer working, I imagine due to the Imgur purge done a coupple months ago. I'm not sure if you scanned the books yourselves or anything else, but would it be at all possible to reupload them? Especially for the 1986 Annual and such, these are not available anywhere else online from what I can tell. Thanks for all the great work! --Farahtec (talk) 04:26, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
