Synopsis[edit | edit source]

The Leo Clan camp

Sophia of the nomadic Leo Clan spots a Wolf Emblem in a river in the Valley of Death when she notices Grujios and other Gyandlar are moving towards their camp. Converting to her lion form, she heads back and informs her clan's leader, Master Blade, who sends Shony and Nachess to guard the approaches. Also arriving in the Valley are Rom Stol, Battleflex, Triple Jim, Leina Stol, Blue Jet and Rod Drill, following the directions of the Wolf Sword. They are mistaken for Gyandlar and attacked by Sophia and her warriors, with Rom refusing to fight Sophia because she's female. Before anyone can go any further with this the alarm is sounded - the real Gyandlar have attacked the Leo Clan camp and kidnapped Master Blade, with Ambulance Robo taking away some of the injured. Rom and his friends offer to help but she insists he honour her by fighting first. Reluctantly Rom agrees and eventually beats Sophia; according to the laws of the Leo Clan Rom can now take her as his mate - a development that alarms Leina, who finds Sophia and her people uncouth. Meanwhile Master Blade is interrogated by Grujios about the Wolf Symbol and the location of the Hyribead but tells them nothing, much to the displeasure of Gadess. Jingi, a Gyandlar captain, suggests they attack the Leo Clan to force Master Blade to reveal what he knows.

Jingi

Shony and Nachess find the cave in Skull Rock where Master Blade is being held and report back to Sophia. As the Leo Clan mobilise she tells Rom she will only accept his group's help if he honours their traditions by marrying her, which Rom refuses to do. Instead the Leo Clan warriors attack alone; outnumbered, they are soon surrounded by Gyandlar troopers. Fortunately, Rom, Jet, Drill and Leina have followed them discretely anyway, and join the battle. Rom finds himself up against Jingi, who sends a lethal attack towards him - only for Sophia to dive in front of him, sustaining mortal injuries. Touched, Jingi allows him a moment to grieve - but an impatient Gadess, watching from orbit, opens a chasm on the ground below. Jingi then attacks once again as Rom summons Kenryū to fight him. While they battle, Jet takes the remaining Leo Clan warriors, allowing them to free Master Blade. Rom then calls forth Baikanfu and kills Jingi, at which point Grujios retreats with his remaining troopers. Master Blade then tells them the Leo Clan don't really know anything about the Wolf Emblem, and that the heroes' quest must continue.

Quotes[edit | edit source]

Notes[edit | edit source]

ROC704.jpg
  • The appearances of both Falcon Robo and Offroad Robo are just brief cameos of them transforming in the Valley of Death unconnected to the action; it is possible that at this point Bandai (whose logo bizarrely appears in the middle of Offroad Robo's conversion) were putting pressure on Ashi Productions to feature more toy-based characters in the cartoon. It was the first appearance of both in the series.
  • Rom convinces the Leo Tribe he's friendly by punching Sophia in the throat.
  • While Leina joins the attack on Skull Rock, Triple Jim sits it out at the camp.

Errors[edit | edit source]

Continuity errors and plotting errors[edit | edit source]

  • Rom's chivalry/chauvinism about fighting females wasn't present when he scuffled with Diondra.
  • The Gyandlar attract unnecessary attention by basing their interrogation in a giant skull-shaped cave.
  • Gadess' power to split the ground open from orbit has never been seen before despite its' uses, and is never seen again either.
