Synopsis[edit | edit source]

At the Machine Robo Rescue base the Supporter Robo are racing while carrying containers under Robo Master control as part of the cadets' training. As Taiyoh's controlling skills aren't great he improvises and has Sky Robo kick the container along, slowing Aider Robo (controlled by Ace) and Bike Robo (controlled by Makoto) - predictably irritating instructor Miyajima. Drill Robo meanwhile is impatient as he has yet to be assigned a Robo Master partner. Taiyoh gets Sky Robo across the line first, only to be instantly disqualified by Miyajima for the battered state of the container. The next race is set to be between Alice, Tsuyoshi and Daichi, though as Sayuri notices the latter is suffering from stomach pains. While the other two control Bike Robo and Sky Robo, the Bulldozer Robo Daichi should be controlling isn't even moving. Taiyoh, Arias and Makoto note that this isn't the first time Daichi has cried off from training with illness. Later he is still feeling queasy when Drill Robo approaches him, finding the boy is wondering if he is cut out to be a Robo Master. The tactless Drill Robo then states that a Robo Master without confidence is no use, causing Daichi to run off as Sayuri watches. Meanwhile Alice, Lin and Ken are watching actress Saeko Homura in an episode of Ninja Mama. Taiyoh infuriates the girls and Ken by changing the channel to news, which is recapping the highway rescue undertaken by Blue Sirens. Makoto calmly states that the lack of mention of Jet Robo reaffirms Taiyo's inferiority and the pair scrap once more. The resulting scattering of cutlery allows Daichi to show off his uncanny ability to easily deduce where any object is going to land and instantly calculate sizes and distances, much impressing Sayuri. Later that evening his mother - the same Saeko Homura who stars in Ninja Mama - phones Daichi, and her words of encouragement only add to the pressure he is feeling. Meanwhile Marie asks Miyajima if he is free on Sunday; believing she is about to suggest a date he eagerly agrees, only to find she actually wants him to take the children to an amusement park. On the day, Daichi and Sayuri sit out the trip. Unbeknown to the MRR, Jay is planning to attack the subway with a Gura Gorro, and the cracks it causes forces the subway supervisors to declare an emergency stop for the train carrying Miyajima and the cadets, but it is trapped by a cave-in.

Back at the base, Daichi is in the process of texting his parents the news that he plans to drop out of the Robo Master programme when Sayuri tells him of the trouble in the subway. Miyajima is able to contact Sasaki and update him but the group are trapped. With Marie and her father elsewhere at a meeting only Sasaki, Daichi and Sayuri are on-hand to deal with the crisis. The instructor plans to use Drill Robo to free their friends, and Daichi seemingly confidently volunteers to pilot the Machine Robo, impressing the other two - unaware that Bone, also still present, has just thrown his voice. Meanwhile underground the situation is worsening as the subway tunnel is beginning to crack, letting water in. Drill Robo launches with Daichi onboard, followed by the Bulldozer Robo. They board the Gear Dump, which delivers the Drill Team to the city - not realising that Jay is watching. He reassigns the Gura Gorro from its' urban destruction to battle the Machine Robo. Sasaki gives authorisation for a ZONE to be deployed, and Daichi immediately orders the team to enter Hyper Mode to combat the Disaster mecha's huge hammer arm. With Daichi's orders and ability to read the Gura Gorro's movements countering his over-excitement, Hyper Drill Robo begins to gain the upper hand in the battle and wins. Jay once again has to retreat, leaving Drill Robo and Daichi to tunnel through to the subway carriage - where the water has reached shoulder level. He is able to create a channel to cause the water to recede just in time. While exhausted, he decides to stay with Machine Robo Rescue

Continuity notes[edit | edit source]

  • Drill Robo refers to Marie Bitou as "little sister" and seems to have retained some of the goofiness of his eighties counterpart - limbering up before going into action and striking a variety of bizarre martial arts poses. He is the most physically powerful of the Machine Robo.
  • The title character of Ninja Mama is Yoko Kimura, portrayed by Saeko Homura. She fights with a yo-yo. Homura is the favourite actress of Alice and Lin. She has children (though no-one seems to know that Daichi is one of them) and is married to a company director, which is apparently enough for Alice to declare her a role model for all women.
  • Miyajima is once again flustered enough to get someone's name wrong, calling Koshiro "Kojiro".
  • Sayuri takes a flower arranging class as well as the usual Robo Master training sessions.
  • The dialogue seems to imply that Red Wings' Machine Robo were also deployed in the highway pile-up, despite not being shown to and their Robo Masters being still at the base.
