Synopsis[edit | edit source]
The Wolf Sword has led Triple Jim, Leina, Rom, Blue Jet and Rod Drill has brought them to the Rainbow Sands of Arambia. Leina narrowly avoids being eaten by one of the monsters that inhabit the desert, so Rom scouts ahead alone. He finds a Tank Transer being attacked by Gyandlar troops that slice off one of their prey's legs before Rom intervenes. He helps the injured Machine Robo back to the others, where Jet and Drill recognise him as Trim Sponsor, though he is acting strangely compared to his usual friendly self. That night the group spot a mysterious singer in the desert; Trim says it is his girlfriend Rudi but refuses to let them meet her, and insists on staying in the desert while the others continue to the nearby city of Arambia, following the Wolf Sword. Trim tells them a safe path across the green sands but instead the desert attacks the travellers with poison gas; Drill saves them by burrowing underground, where they find a giant drill ship with the Wolf Emblem on it. The Sand Submarine takes them to the local king Girandor, who tells them Arambia is suffering an energy shortage since Trim betrayed them on a mission to get bantonium from another settlement. Drill reacts angrily at his friend being accused but Rom offers to recapture the Hyribead for the king, promising Drill they will find out why Trim did it. The trio head into the desert and split up to find him.
Trim ambushes Rom, refusing to listen to reason and acting ever more erratically before suddenly exploding. Rom spots and confronts Rudi, who turns out to be a lifeless android carrying the bantonium. Rom finds a recording in the robot; Trim's message explains the king - working for the Gyandlar - used an experimental bantonium bomb that mutated the desert, killing Rudi and infecting Trim. He in fact stole the Hyribead to prevent the king making further bombs. The others swear vengeance. In Kenryū form, Rom smashes through the walls of the palace and confronts the king, backed by Jet and Drill. The king turns into a massive Gyandlar monster, but Rom calls up Baikanfu and uses the mutated desert itself to destroy him by dropping him on the extreme heat of the red sand. Victorious, they bury Trim's remains.

Notes[edit | edit source]
- Trim - a Tank Transer - was a childhood friend of Drill. He always won Drill's lunch off him when betting. He's very powerful, easily keeping Rom at bay until the after-effects of the experimental bomb catch up with him by turning him into rock and causing him to fall apart.
- Rudi is not seen to convert but has wheels on her shoulders during the flashback showing her with Trim.
- The blue sands of the Arambia desert contain monsters, the green sands contain poison gas and the red sands are hot enough to destroy even Machine Robo.
