Magmar discovered the Cryon Ray during his studies of Stonehead and was eager to put it into action. When Boulder led the Good Rock Lords against him Magmar had his troops set up an ambush and used the Ray to freeze them in their rock forms before carting them back to a cage outside Stonehead. However, Nuggit had been ahead of his friends and missed the fight; he followed them back to Stonehead and accidentally activated a long-forgotten secret panel in his chest. This not only freed Boulder and the others from the effect of the ray but disabled the weapon itself, allowing the Good Rock Lords to overcome Magmar's troops and get away.
