Chara Collection

The Chara Collection was an assortment of figures in the Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos toyline, released by Bandai in Japan in 1986.

They were poseable figures of the series' three heroic leads - Rom Stol, Blue Jet and Rod Drill. They were about 6 inches tall and featured decent articulation for the time. While clearly designed with the cartoon in mind they didn't follow the overt stylisation of the Ashi character models, with Rom having a much more robotic face. The Chara Collection figures were among the very few all-new toys in the line. Each figure also came with an enamel badge of the Wolf Emblem.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • While a comparison can be made with the Transformers Action Masters the Chara Collection more likely have their roots in Popy/Bandai's Chogokin series, which had long produced smaller, more poseable versions of various super robots - usually referred to as a "ST" (Standard) version compared to a larger feature-packed "DX" (Deluxe) version.
  • The Chara Collection seem to have rapidly been superseded by the Chara DX Collection versions of the figures, and come up an auction much less frequently.
