Synopsis[edit | edit source]

"That's odd, the weather report said no giant faces in space today..."

A huge malevolent face appears in a Star Gate above the Machine Robo's Techno Planet and unleashes swarms of Devil Invaders from the Casmo Zone. The Machine Robo mobilise in response - City Turbo II Robo, Limousine Robo, Blackbird Robo, Fairchild Robo and Falcon Robo all convert to robot mode and summon the Power Suits.

Fairchild Robo takes P1, Falcon Robo takes P2, Limousine Robo takes P3, City Turbo II Robo takes P4 and Blackbird Robo takes the Command Jet.

Despite heavy fire from the Devil Invaders the group are able to form Battle Armor 5. Joined by Land Commander 5, the giant takes to the air, fires a single blast into the Star Gate and the sky clears.

Notes[edit | edit source]

Not available in stores.
  • This short was produced by Studio Pierrot as a promotional video for the Battle Armor 5 line, to be screened at industry fairs and the like. A booklet featuring stills from the short was included with the Battle Armor 5 toy.
  • City Turbo II Robo has a sizeable role despite his planned toy being abandoned seemingly before even reaching the prototype stage.
  • After the drooling ceremony and detail of Battle Armor 5 forming up intricately, Land Commander 5 just shows up fully formed for a few frames, possibly due to the toy not being fully completed at that point; the character design is based on an early version of the toy, featuring a notably different head design. Land Commander 5 would instead get to be a major feature of Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos while Battle Armor 5 was reduced to a single cameo in the series.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Some of the music from the short shows up in an episode of the anime Kinnikuman (released in the West as M.U.S.C.L.E).
  • While this commercial was officially released on the Machine Robo Visual Records DVD included with Machine Robo Wedge the transfer was made from an old recording rather than the animation masters (which presumably belong to Studio Pierrot, if the masters even still exist) and the picture quality is variable.
  • Yes, it would have been nice if Challenge of the GoBots had looked like this.
  • No, you are not the first person to think that.
