The Battle Rock named Mars was found by Rom, Leina, Jet, Drill and Jim in a forest and taken for medical attention in the nearby town, where the nurse Carma revealed he has been missing for a week. Mars had intermittent memories of being attacked by the Gyandlar; the travellers hang around as Mars goes back to his building work. Leina was almost killed by a falling iron bar on the site before Mars saved her; she was quite taken with Mars and visited him again at the site that evening. They were ambushed by a Gyandlar squad lead by Diondra. She claimed Mars was one of the soldiers in her army; this restored his memories of being captured and experimented on by the Gyandlar. Rom arrived to help but Leina is captured by Diondra; the stress of the situation causes Mars to suddenly turn into a mindless monster. Even Diondra seemed taken aback but she was then transported back to the Varigale-X with Leina. Rom tried to reason with Mars but the Battle Rock prevented Jet from giving chase before running off himself. Rom followed him into the woods where he found Mars back to normal and making more sense; Rom tried to persuade him to help by pointing out that they may be able to return him to normal if they defeat the Gyandlar. Mars agreed to help Leina - but only if Rom promised to kill him the next time he changes. Mars headed towards the landed Varigale-X where he met by Diondra and her troops. He demanded they hand over Leina but instead she attached a headband to Mars that will give the Gyandlar control of his rampages before Garudi threatened Leina, triggering his transformation. The Gyandlar unleashed Mars - now grown to giant size - on the city where he caused a huge amount of destruction; Diondra had Leina tied to a pole to keep him angry. Rom called up Baikanfu to battle Mars while Jet rescued Leina. She pled with Mars to no effect, and Baikanfu was forced to smash the crystal on Mars' chest to save her. With it destroyed, Mars exploded. A fragment of the crystal fell into Leina's hands as she mourned his death.Battle Rock Mars' Tears Other Battle Rocks formed a vital part of the forces that eventually defeated the Gyandlar. Rock Robo[edit | edit source]
- Battle Rock (1986)
- ID number: MRR-1
- Accessories: Justice Laser Gun
- Battle Rock was one of the Rock Robo in the Machine Robo:Revenge of Cronos toyline, and coverts from robot to Kimberlite rock in 4 steps. The figure has excellent arm articulation and further movement at the hips, knees and feet which can be used for some good poses thanks to the figure's balance. His head really, really looks like it should turn. But it doesn't. The Justice Laser Gun can clip into a hole on his right forearm.
- The same figure was issued as Boulder in Rock Lords by Tonka, with a modified colour scheme where the robot parts were tan. It is unclear which version of the figure was released first.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- While the biography with the toy claimed Battle Rock was the leader of the good Rock Robo, he was by far the most common type in the cartoons, usually being portrayed as an unimportant bumpkin compared to the likes of Cross Rock or Mask Rock.
