The 'UNECOM Science Facility'[1] is a secret UNECOM research facility in Utah, protected by a powerful forcefield.

Fiction[edit | edit source]

Challenge of the GoBots cartoon[edit | edit source]

The base was used by Professor Von Joy to test upgrades to the Power Suits, watched by Leader-1, Turbo, Scooter, Matt Hunter, A.J. Foster and Nick Burns, while Blaster and Defendor patrolled the perimeter. Scooter meanwhile was carrying out maintenance when he spotted a meteor landing and set off to investigate. Alas, it was a Renegade trap and he was left unconscious and found by Clive. By the following day he had been missed but by the time Turbo and A.J. caught up with Clive, Scooter had been captured by Cop-Tur; they took Clive in for further questioning. He then seemed to return to the base unharmed, with his chippy behaviour being ignored by Blaster and Defendor when it was an obvious sign he had in fact been brainwashed; while the Renegades had learnt the location of the base they had no way of getting past the forcefield. The controlled Scooter was sent to hack the barrier but Clive escaped and tried to take him again, instead riding the Guardian into a power-bank and jolting him free of Renegade programming. Scooter was thus able to warn Leader-1, who decided to use the knowledge to set a trap. Cy-Kill, Cop-Tur, Crasher, Pincher, Snoop and Geeper-Creeper swaggered into the base, only to be ambushed by Leader-1, Turbo, Blaster, Dumper, Dozer, Scratch and Road Ranger. The resulting crossfire seemed to be weakening the Renegades - only for Professor Von Joy to attempt to help with a new experimental weapon. His device sadly froze the Guardians, allowing Cy-Kill to call a retreat. It's the Thought that Counts

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • It's never actually stated that "It's the Thought that Counts" takes place in Utah, but we can figure that out from the road signs for Salt Lake City that appear when Turbo and A.J. chase Clive. Hence, the unnamed rocky expanse where the Guardian science base sits is almost certainly somewhere in the state's Great Salt Lake Desert, perhaps the famous Bonneville Salt Flats.
  • Despite the base being named as a UNECOM facility only the three human regulars are seen there and everything in the building is scaled for GoBots.
