Jay goes to the shops for some salt - and then things escalate.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

Still struggling with the concept of time off Jay plans to use his day off to get some salt so Satoko can make onigiri for dinner. The other cadets decide to follow him on his first errand to see how his social skills are coming along. Their first plan is to have the Utada brothers don a trench-coat and mask to follow him on a train, and he mistakes them for a pregnant woman before the twins inevitably start fighting. Meanwhile Miyajima becomes suspicious when Red Wings are especially polite and happy, while Makoto and Alice standby at the supermarket to see how Jay faces the next hurdle. He is delayed dealing with a purse snatcher, though a kindly old man has to stop him from battering the criminal and instead call the police. The old man is Jun Mizushima's grandfather Junichiro and gets Jay confused with his grandson. Remembering Sayuri telling him to be kind to the elderly Jay just goes with it - and gets dragged to the airport, to the amusement of everyone watching. The old man is planning a trip to Ikaros 1 for his 77th birthday but drops his ticket, which means Jay has to climb a tree to get it - and ends up getting attacked by wasps. After the ticket gets blown into a river Makoto sends his K-BOY to help direct Junichiro to it - leading to the him nearly getting attacked by a crocodile, needing saving by Jay. They are then saved by V Stealth Robo, cloaked nearby, and Jay tells him not to interfere with his 'Salt Retrieval Mission'. Jay then plunges into the river after the ticket, leaving Makoto and Alice to give up shadowing him. Jay returns the ticket to Junichiro, only to find out what he's found is a lottery ticket - one that has the third prize of a year's supply of salt. Unfortunately on using the entry ticket they instead win two tickets for a tour of Ikaros 1. Before he knows it Jay is at the airport, where they encounter an unwell woman who wants a charm delivered to someone on the spaceport. Junichiro volunteers them for the job - point out to Jay that they can get salt at Ikaros 1. The other cadets check in on his K-Boy's location and are astonished to find him launching into space - just as Miyajima and the other instructors find out something's going on. Meanwhile the Disasters take control of the solar power satellite Sunrise 1.

Onboard Ikaros 1 the real Jun awaits his grandfather's arrival along with his cousin Ryo and his uncle. As Jay and Junichiro arrive one of the station's officers thanks Jay for MRR's work in saving the station, but before he can explain he actually attacked it the old man spots the woman's husband and delivers the charm to him. He tells Jay he can get salt in the shop on the station, and Jay is touched by the kindness of all around him. On Earth, MRR become aware of Sunrise 1's odd movements; it is seeming heading down towards Africa. Machine Commander is prepared for launch with Jet Robo, Submarine Robo and Gyro Robo onboard while V Stealth Robo is to be sent to Ikaros 1 to collect Jay. However, the latter is missing and due to his cloaking device cannot be found - in fact, he was been following Jay the whole time, and appears on Ikaros 1. Just then the Mizushima family arrive, giving Jay chance to slip away with V Stealth Robo, who he commands into Hyper Mode as they set out of correct the falling satellite. However, he is attacked by a Gura Gorro as he approaches, and Colonel Hazard praises Kaiser-G for his plan to use the satellite against Earth as they prepare to use it to fire a blast of microwave energy at the planet. Machine Commander arrives in orbit and converts to Machine Commander Robo, which combines with V Stealth Robo to form Machine Commander Robo V. He is able to block the beam, absorb the microwave energy and sent it back, destroying the Gura Gorro, before returning Sunrise 1 to its' correct orbit. There's even time for Machine Commander Robo V to take Jay to the store to buy the bag of salt, allowing everyone to enjoy Sakoto's onigiri - though Jay reacts angrily when Alice suggests it's an embodiment of his blood, sweat and tears, as he still doesn't know what an analogy is.
