Tempo was a sub-label of Abbey Home Media, a British home entertainment company. While they are primarily noted for releasing numerous American cartoons on VHS in the UK in the late 1980s and early 1990s they also got in on the then-lucrative "book and cassette" market. With VHS players and tapes still relatively expensive in Britain at the time they represented a cheaper way of kids enjoying a bit of their favourite franchises on demand, while the inclusion of a book gave the things a veneer of respectability that appealed to older relatives, meaning a brace of card-mounted white plastic cassettes with an extant storybook thrown in awaited most British children on Christmas Day from aunts and uncles. The cassettes themselves tended to be low-rent, consisting of a single uncredited jobbing actor reading the included book, maybe with a few basic sound effects thrown in. While Vestron Video had the home market rights to Challenge of the GoBots, Tempo were nevertheless able to snag the cassette rights as one of several licences for the format; their GoBots releases were in partnership with World Distributors - a winning combination...
