WikiAlpha Spay-C article[edit source]

That's for all the work on Spay-C. As this is Creative Commons, I used some of the text on this page for another Spay-C entry on a wiki, and provided a link back here. http://en.wikialpha.org/wiki/Spay-C MRI (talk) 19:29, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

A condition of this wiki's CC BY-SA 3.0 license is that remixes must be distributed under the same license as the original. WikiAlpha uses a 'Public Domain' license which is not compatible with CC BY-SA 3.0, so using GBWiki content there isn't actually permissible. Jalaguy (talk) 20:08, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to put it in my own words then instead of using these. MRI (talk) 20:16, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
Just so you know, I'm pretty sure the word "remixes" includes using this place as a source and just rephrasing things, in the same way that you couldn't submit someone else's essay to a school or universty course with all the verbs thesaurus-ificated more complicated and get away with it. You'd best go back to sourcing the original work instead to avoid being in violation of anything, or at the very least seek out another wiki with a more permissive or otherwise compatible license. Yes, 4 sentences of plot synopsis with a few alterations is is JUST like copying a college essay. Thanks for that. I've been writing the wikialpha pages for years now, and I'll manage to continue, nice to see someone else join in writing GoBots wikis, eventually.MRI (talk) 20:46, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Good news everyone. I spoke with the site owner of WikiAlpha and got him to add a template which we can insert into any page on WikiAlpha which uses text from this wiki, and it changes that individual page to Creative Commons, and points to this site as the source. So that should take care of any licensing issues. Please contact me if there is any other problem. 98.243.104.173 00:08, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

That is the opposite of good news. No, seriously. Your Facebook posts show that you are attempting to compete with this wiki, but then you can't even write your own articles and have to copy content across from other websites. Yes, you're technically legally allowed to do that - but it's both shady and makes the wiki you're involved with look bad. I urge you to reconsider copying GBWiki content if not for the sake of the article, then at least for WikiAlpha's dignity. Sky Shadow (talk) 01:21, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
