The Star Fortress was a large joint Guardian/UNECOM space station, set up in Earth's solar system.

Challenge of the GoBots cartoon[edit | edit source]

The Star Fortress was ready just as Halley's Comet approached Earth, leading to a UNECOM ship crewed by Matt Hunter, A.J. Foster, Nick Burns, Professor Von Joy and an Australian scientist being sent up. Their mission to the comet was cut short when they discovered it contained the powerful element Quantumite and wanted to test it - though almost as soon as they landed the station came under attack from Thruster. With help from Scooter, Professor Von Joy was able to connect the Quantumite to the Star Fortress' systems, boosting the station's shields so much that Thruster was unable to go near it, much less attack. Instead, Cy-Kill and his troops waited, instead attacking the next shuttle run to the comet and using the UNECOM ship to sneak past the shields in order to steal the Quantumite. Along with Cop-Tur, Pincher and Sky-Jack, Cy-Kill was able to gain access, taking Leader-1 and Sparky by surprise. The Renegades soon went on a rampage around the base, with Cy-Kill's mesmerising eyes taking control of a squad of soldiers onboard, turning them on Mach-3 and Twister. They were able to take the core despite Leader-1 and Sparky shooting down Cop-Tur and Sky-Jack; with the shields down Crasher was able to bring Thruster into the station's shuttle bay. However, Nick and A.J. were onboard the Thruster's cargo compartment and when Cop-Tur opened the doors the pair fell on Cy-Kill, knocking the Quantumite from his hand. Its' container broke and the element quickly became volatile. The Renegades boarded Thruster and escaped but the Star Fortress was doomed. The Guardians were able to evacuate all of its' personnel before it blew up, leaving Professor Von Joy to mourn that the station had only been operational for a single day, but Leader-1 reassured him the next Star Fortress would be bigger, better and longer-lasting.
