Pro Truck Racer (プロトラック・レーサー) is a Machine Robo from Cronos and later Electronic Planet B-1, and Tough Trailer's brother. Pro Truck Racer is 16.7m tall, weighs 7.5 tons and can reach 447mph in truck mode. His weapon has a range of 932 miles.

His strength and firepower are a vital part of Rom's army and get them out of numerous scrapes. Initially he is a little arrogant and something of a loner, preferring to blast his way out of trouble with his admittedly massive Big Blazer Cannon rather than asking for help, though he soon learns to work better with others.

Pro Truck Racer's precise whereabouts in the early part of the conflict with the Gyandlar were unknown, but after hearing of Emerald City being razed by Gadess he headed towards the city. There he saved Rod Drill, who was searching for his brother Tough Trailer underground near the ruins of Emerald City. Soon after they found Tough Trailer and the Gyandlar general Diondra, saving them from a rockfall before returning to the surface.Escape from the Underground - Pro Truck Racer Appears! Along with Leina Stol, Tough Trailer and Drill he was then trapped behind Gyandlar lines outside the ruins of the city, clashing endlessly with Drill over the best way to safely return to their comrades. While he was able to help Drill collapse a building to bridge a chasm keeping them from Emerald City he continued to argue, especially when Drill and Tough Trailer insisted on stopping to find medical aid for the injured Leina. Pro Truck Racer instead set off by himself but was then attacked by Garudi and the Gyandlar Devils. Pro Truck Racer was soon overwhelmed but the fight was spotted by Blackbird Robo, who alerted Blue Jet and Rom Stol. They were able to save Pro Truck Racer and drive off the Gyandlar, though Tough Trailer was injured ramming Garudi. Seeing the error of his hot-headed behaviour, Pro Truck Racer apologised and asked to join the Machine Robo army. Fire! Big Blazer Cannon!

His apparent lack of concern for his injured brother shocked Leina; instead Pro Truck Racer went out spoiling for a fight. Despite Rom and Kendō Robo feeling they didn't have the troops for offensive moves against the Gyandlar, Pro Truck Racer set off with Missile Tank Robo, Battle Robo and Skyline Robo looking for trouble - soon finding it in the form of Diondra and the Gyandlar Devils, who baited them into a fight. Unknown to Pro Truck Racer, Tough Trailer had revived, overhearing of his rashness and set out to find him, being tricked into taking the Medusa Sword. Pro Truck Racer travelled back to Emerald City and returned with Rom, Drill and Jet. Possessed by the sword, Tough Trailer attacked him. The blade was destroyed by Baikanfu, who Pro Truck Racer then saved from quicksand. Curse of the Demon Sword Medusa He later aided in the handling of refugees from other parts of Cronos before joining Rom, Jet, Drill and Combat Buggy in searching for the missing Leina, Fire Robo and Kempō Robo, later helping save them from an attack by Diondra. After overseeing the training of the new Land Commander 5 team, he was later one of the key troops drawn away from the Battle Base by the Grujios-possessed Harley Robo, where the pair were kept busy by waves of Gyandlar troopers; Rom eventually realised it was just a distraction and the others were able to cover him while he headed back to the Base. Close Call, Land Commander 5! He was patrolling in the ruins of Emerald City with Rom and others when they were trapped and attacked by Garudi, who had been tipped off by Grujios, who was using a copy of Battle Gyror to infiltrate the base. Pro Truck Racer helped expose the spy. Raise Your Gun, Heli Transer!

When explosives were needed to counter the Gyandlar's weather machine he suggested the Wheelmen, travelling to meet with the smugglers along with Rom and Bike Robo. They retrieved the device from Cleo City as planned, with Rom and Pro Truck Racer later saving F-One Jack from Gyandlar Rocks after the Wheelmen went back on an agreement with the invaders to betray Rom's party. Along with Rom, he was then able to save Hot Rod Joe from Garudi, allowing the explosives to be deployed and the Battle Base to be saved. Full Power, Wheelmen! Pro Truck Racer was then part of a team searching for the Wolf Sword that comprised one of the four elements of the Hyribead, surviving run-ins with Diondra and the carnivorous plants that lined the Valley of the Fossil Men. Secret Valley of the Fossil Men He was part of the taskforce that stormed the Gyandlar mothership Power Riser, Break Through the Enemy!, gaining access only to be among those trapped in a melting throne room after Gadess tricked Rom and the rest of his troops. Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos[edit | edit source]

Machine Robo[edit | edit source]

  • Pro Truck Racer (1986)
    • ID number: MRB
    • Accessories: Big Blazer Cannon, spoiler, pellets
Pro Truck Racer was released by Bandai in the Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos toyline, and transforms from robot to a racing truck cab of fictional design. The toy is an extensive retool of Titan Boy from Bandai's Chogokin line, based on the mecha from the Chōshinsei Flashman Super Sentai series; Tough Trailer has similar origins, hence their fraternal relationship in the series. The work involves a new (removable) spoiler, a much-modified head tooling and retooled chest/hood, featuring an exposed engine and chromed weaponry. Thanks to the spoiler and engine block the Big Blazer Cannon can be added to the vehicle mode. The cannon itself is a functioning BB-style launcher, and comes with a selection of pellets that can be fired from it. Pro Truck Racer has articulation at the shoulder and elbow. The figure is around the same size as a Secret Rider in robot mode.
  • Pro Truck Racer was not released outside of Japan.

Merchandise[edit | edit source]

A painted version of the kit, as featured on the model's box.

Machine Robo: Battle Hackers[edit | edit source]

  • Pro Truck Racer (Machine Robo: Battle Hackers, 1987)
    • ID number: 3
A small plastic model kit version of Pro Truck Racer was issued by Bandai as part of their Machine Robo: Battle Hackers line of models. Pro Truck Racer retained his ability to transform; unlike earlier kits for the line, the Battle Hackers models were cast in three colours - in Pro Truck Racer's case black, white and red. However painting would still be needed to make the model accurate to the included leaflet. Like the rest of the range, the model retailed at ¥150.

Notes[edit | edit source]

Prisms are my thing.
  • It is not clear if Pro Truck Racer and Tough Trailer are still brothers in Machine Robo: Battle Hackers, where the latter has a much smaller role.
  • Exactly why and how he ended up with five different voice actors is unclear.
