MRR have to save a sinking ocean cruise liner - without the Machine Robo.
Synopsis[edit | edit source]
Ace is stunned to receive only an A- on his latest batch of test scores and asks the instructors why; they tell him that while academically he is faultless he hasn't yet met their expectations. Later in the hangar he complains to Fire Robo about them not giving him any details, and is overheard by the rest of Red Wings and Jay. Lin points out that his ego could be the problem. With Chief Bitou, Marie Bitou and Sasaki called away to a World Disaster Prevention Council meeting and Miyajima left in charge the day's classes are cancelled and so they cadets observe the Poseidon, a cutting-edge cruise liner with an electromagnetic propulsion system, as it passes Rescue Headquarters. However, they notice a tanker on a collision course with the ship, which tears a hole in the side. The Machine Robo prepare to help but as the liner's engine malfunctions it emits a pulse, knocking them all out of commission, while Bone complains of a horrible sound Taiyoh can't hear. Professor Suidōbashi informs Miyajima of the situation as the technicians try and reboot the Machine Robo, though the Professor is mystified that many systems - including the Supporter Robo - remain operational. As the cadets watch a fire breaks out on the Poseidon and Miyajima orders the cadets to scramble even with the Leader Robo out of action. Susumu and Tsuyoishi are able to use the Helicopter Robo to winch a team onboard, led by Miyajima. While Poseidon has enough lifeboats and is beginning to evacuate the passengers some on lower decks are trapped. Makoto leads a team to evacuate the tanker's crew while Miyajima prepares to lead Ace, Jay, Taiyoh and Shō inside. However, an explosion above them threatens a young girl and Miyajima shields her from the debris, getting injured in the process. As he is stretchered away he places Ace in operational command before Susumu and a pair of Helicopter Robo take the instructor to hospital. After a moment's hesitation Ace begins issuing orders before readying to head inside the ship with Taiyoh, Jay, Makoto and Daichi. Makoto points out that it won't be fast enough and Ace agrees, splitting them into teams. Back in the hangar Suidōbashi is making no progress with rebooting the Leader Robo, before Bone takes advantage of his distracted nature to mention the ultrasonic sound before pretending to be asleep as the Professor realises what has happened.
Out at sea, the Aider Robo, Bike Robo and Bulldozer Robo are dousing the fire under the command of Kai, Alice and Ken, while Shō uses the Aqua Robo to observe the damage to the Poseidon below the waterline - discovering a large hole. Meanwhile Lin uses the Sky Robo to freeze the oil leaking from the tanker, but the team are unable to separate the two ships without them sinking. Inside, a passenger suffering from smoke inhalation tells Taiyoh and Ace of a trapped child in another room. With time running out, Taiyoh orders Jay to take the man to safety while he searches for the child. Meanwhile Daichi and Makoto make it to the control room, and the Professor tells them to shut off the engine - the source of the ultrasonic wave that is disabling the AIs of the Leader Robo. The technicians successfully bring the Machine Robo back online. Ace orders Susumu to launch Machine Commander with Fire Robo, Drill Robo and Gyro Robo onboard. Inside Taiyoh finds the unconscious child just as the foam in the canisters he is carrying is exhausted. Everyone else has evacuated but the Poseidon is close to sinking, with the Aqua Robo barely able to hold it steady. Ace prepares to run in but is restrained by Jay, who tells him to have faith in Taiyoh. Just then Machine Commander Robo arrives with V Stealth Robo and Jet Robo, while Submarine Robo joins the Aqua Robo underwater. Ace orders Machine Commander Robo V to be formed and for the Submarine Team to activate Hyper Mode. Taiyoh jumps clear from the ship with the child and is caught by Jet Robo. Hyper Submarine Robo separates the ships and Machine Commander Robo V extinguishes the fire with a Wind Tornado before Hyper Submarine Robo seals the hull with his Bubble Smash. Everyone congratulates Ace on his masterful handling of the situation before he collapses from stress. Back in the hangar the Professor explains the effect the resonance had on the Machine Robo AI, and credits Bone with helping him work it out. Claiming it was a one in a million chance, he plans to make sure it can't happen again. Ace meanwhile is in a hospital bed neighbouring Miyajima, who tells him he believes he had addressed his one flaw by being able to make use of the whole team instead of doing everything himself, giving him the 'A' he was after.
