Can Taiyoh overcome his stubbornness and learn from Arias "Ace" Honoh?

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

MRRE21-022RedWings.jpg

The cadets receive their latest exam results, and Taiyoh scores 100 marks - though sadly for him this is his combined score from four different tests. Instead, Ace is the highest scoring student in the class, which results in his usual humility. Despite this, Marie Bitou orders all of Red Wings to stay after class as the worst-scoring team overall. As Arias tries to lead the cram session Taiyoh questions why they need to know the information for performing rescues. However, before they start going over the tests Ace tells them of fire storms - the way wind can affect fires. While Lin and Kai are interested, Taiyoh quickly grows bored and tunes out. Later in his dorm he reads Manga instead of studying. Bone attempts to tell him everyone is going through the same demands on their time, and in a trademark leap of logic Taiyoh decides that this must mean Ace cheated before setting off to investigate. He climbs outside of Ace's window to find his cheating seems to extend to studying before heading off in the middle of the night. Suspicious, Taiyoh follows - only to find Ace is simply performing cleaning work on Fire Robo. After he goes, Taiyoh quizzes the Machine Robo, who simply explains that Ace cleans him twice a day as he's an exceptional Robo Master. Perplexed, Taiyoh gives up and goes back to bed, telling Bone he'll study in the morning. However, the next day Ace reacts angrily when Taiyoh claims he studies a lot, instead insisting he's a natural genius. Before Marie can separate them the alarm sounds and Red Wings are called into action to combat a blaze at an industrial plant. Upset about the run-in with Ace and worried about how it will affect their rescue abilities, Taiyoh hesitates to join the call - until Marie tells him that secretly his team-mate always praises his rescue skills. He snaps out of it and joints the team on the Wing Liner as they head into action.

With some children still trapped by the fire Ace decides they need to swap the Supporter Robo of Fire Robo and Jet Robo, with the Sky Robo forming the legs of both and the Aider Robo the arms. They soon find that the separated children are Jun Mizushima's class on another trip; they find the teacher and most of the children but Jun himself is predictably missing. Ace and Taiyoh go to search for him while Kai and Lin get the teacher and the other children to safety. Outside the situation is complicated further when a Gura Gorro arrives, knocking down Fire Robo and causing another explosion. Arias commands Fire Robo to create a ZONE to contain the attacker. Inside he and Taiyoh find Jun but the fire is spreading. Jet is able to use the Aider Robos to clear them a path through the fire, but Taiyoh has one of his flashes of instinct when they prepare to exit, instead suggesting they find another way out. Arias is initially agog at the idea but relents, instead planning to check the way out himself to be on the safe side before the assembly point is changed. The trio get out in the open before another explosion is triggered, causing a chimney to collapse and block their way out of the complex. They call on their Machine Robos for help before the wind turns the flames into a fire storm. Jet manages to get them to safety and the inferno engulfs Gura Gorro. Backed up by Wing Liner Robo, Fire Robo and Jet Robo are then able to bring the fire under control. Back at Rescue Headquarters Taiyoh continues to complain about Ace, but in the hangar Jet reveals that there was no change in assembly point, and that Ace had found the exit to be unsafe. He and Fire Robo explain that Taiyoh needs to work hard as well as trusting his instincts to reach full potential. Ashamed, Taiyoh redoubles his efforts at studying; finding it difficult, he decides to ask Ace for help to improve.
