EX Combination is a cross-team Machine Robo combination technique used by Machine Robo Rescue.

It consists of a Hyper Mode formed by a Leader Robo and the Supporter Robo of two or more teams, allowing each robot a blend of abilities. The name derives from the exchange of limbs. The move requires the Robo Masters of both teams to activate.

Machine Robo Rescue cartoon[edit | edit source]

As a fire in Ōguchi Valley threatened to spread out of control, Lin Haruka suggested using a Combination EX, with Chief Bitou agreeing. Thus Fire Robo sent two of his Aider Robo to Jet Robo, who sent two of his Sky Robo in the other direction. This allowed them to both fly, and both spray extinguisher on the fire. Look Out! Combination EX Ken Minami combined the Bulldozer Robo with Submarine Robo to give him the strength to raise a pirate galleon from the sea. Summer Holiday! Fear Vacation When a fight broke out between Stealth Robo and BL Drill Robo at the Space Agency, only Jet Robo and the Space Robo were present, so he formed an EX Combination with them to join the battle. Stealth Robo's Fierce End Kai Kitazawa sited the use of EX Combinations as one of the impressive feats the cadets had achieved in the field when they were criticised by Professor Tōru Suidōbashi. The Mysterious Superhero Captain Miracle After Jay and Stealth Robo defected to MRR, Jet Robo sent the Sky Robo to the latter, allowing him to perform an EX Combination and destroy BL Drill Robo. Jay, Join the MRR! When BL Police Robo threatened Alice Beckham, Lin Haruka, Sayuri Suizenji and a Gura Gorro they had befriended, Gyro Robo performed an EX Combination with the Bulldozer Robo, giving him the strength to defeat the BL Machine Robo. Salute to the Gura Gorro When Jay and Makoto Aikawa were stranded on Hell Island, Police Robo and V Stealth Robo set out to find them, with the former using V Stealth Robo's Hyper Mode parts in an EX Combination to allow him to fly. Commercial Bumpers[edit | edit source]

From the 27th episode onwards, EX Combinations were featured as the commercial bumper ending the first half of the episode, first as a computer screen readout and then posing with the show's logo. 12 in total were shown, only one of which was actually used in the cartoon itself.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Despite the bumper showing a BL Machine Robo EX Combination, the Disasters' Machine Robo never showed any sign of being able to do so in the show. Not that they were explored with much thoroughness, though.
  • The EX Combinations were all possible with the toys due to universal posts and housings being used. This was often noted in advertising for the line, including PLEX's website for the toys, was flagged up by the official combinations of the Machine Robo Variations sets and was a clear precursor of Machine Robo Mugenbine. However, it was used sparingly in the show, presumably because it cost more to animate the EX Combination sequences each time rather than just reuse an existing standard combination.

Footnotes[edit | edit source]

  1. The show's various readouts use a slightly different set of numbers compared to those used by the toyline.
