Doctor Hyashi is a Japanese scientist who works for UNECOM. She specialises in genetic research but knows a fair bit about gasses too.
Challenge of the GoBots cartoon
- Voice actor: ?
Doctor Hyashi was stationed at UNECOM's Japanese base when Leader-1, Turbo and Matt Hunter came to visit. She showed off three dinosaurs she had cloned from bone samples—an Elasmosaurus, a Pteranodon, and a Tyrannosaurus Rex, all kept in suspended animation. However they were interrupted by her colleague Doctor Eiji Tsuburaya, who had invented a mutation ray that could turn animals into powerful monsters. Furious at the dangers this could pose she suspended him immediately. An angry Tsuburaya then used his ray to turn the dinosaurs into Ichigar, Kaitudan, and Jerigan, destroying the base. She was saved by Turbo and later modified a sample of gas discovered by Scooter, Nick Burns, and A.J. Foster that would knock the monsters out. Destroy All Guardians
- Doctor Hyashi's given name is not mentioned in the episode.
- She may be named for one of several people involved in the Godzilla franchise, which "Destroy All Guardians" is a
rip-offhomage to. Hiroshi Hayashi was in the first film, Yutaka Hayashi was in Godzilla vs. Megalon, and Norio Hayashi was producer of the then-recent The Return of Godzilla.
- Alternately, a female scientist named Doctor June Hyashi featured in an early draft of Don Glut's script for the Transformers episode "War of the Dinobots", before the episode was rewritten to feature Chip Chase instead. Glut was infamous for recycling material for his scripts, so it's possible he reused the name for Challenge of the GoBots and either spelt it wrong (it was pre-Internet, to be fair) or changed it on his own initiative.
