The Battle Train was a GoBots-themed HO scale (1/87) train set produced by AHM in 1985. It is notable for originating the character A-Tak and, despite featuring a surreal theme, featuring a lot more individual effort than 99% of licenced GoBots merchandise.

Components[edit | edit source]

Engine[edit | edit source]

Main article: A-Tak

The train locomotive (styled after a standard diesel of the era) is the GoBot A-Tak, who can transform into robot mode. In robot form he retains the loco chassis as his feet or a base, meaning he can travel on the rails and tow the rolling stock in either mode.

Crane[edit | edit source]

A crane truck with rotating jib that can "transform" into a rocket launcher by addition of a missile styled after a semi-transformed Leader-1; the idea is to fire this at the Cy-Kill controller or the included cardboard targets of Cy-Kill, Fitor and Psycho.

Mobile Command Center[edit | edit source]

A silver rolling carriage with a few Command Center-style stickers. Hitting this right with Cy-Kill will cause it to 'explode', causing the walls and roof to fall off the chassis.

Helicopter Car[edit | edit source]

A blue cargo wagon with a cardboard box-like helicopter (a Hughes Apache, possibly intended to be Wrong Way, though he's not mentioned) that can be removed to reveal an army of generic GoBot Warrior rubber figurines, cast in blue and yellow.

Caboose[edit | edit source]

The caboose also has a removable cardboard cover - a 'wooden' crate with 'Danger High Explosives' can be removed to reveal a non-firing artillery piece.

Controller[edit | edit source]

The controller for the set is modelled on Cy-Kill's robot mode, unusually using his second black/green colour scheme. In addition to controlling the speed of the train, Cy-Kill can fire his arms at it as missiles, either at the Mobile Command Center or the included cardboard targets of Turbo and Baron Von Joy.

Battle Ground[edit | edit source]

The set includes HO track to make a large circle which can fit on a 40" by 40" cardboard base, depicting a canyon desert landscape.
