Machine Robo commercials[edit | edit source]

When huge malevolent face appeared above a futuristic city and unleashed swarms of Devil Invaders, the Machine Robo mobilised in response - City Turbo II Robo, Limousine Robo, Blackbird Robo, Fairchild Robo and Falcon Robo all converted to robot mode and summon the Power Suits. Fairchild Robo takes P1, Falcon Robo takes P2, Limousine Robo takes P3, City Robo takes P4 and Blackbird Robo takes the Command Jet. Despite heavy fire from the Devil Invaders the group are able to form Battle Armor 5. Joined by Land Commander 5, the giant took to the air, fired a single blast into the face and the sky cleared.Battle Armor 5

Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos cartoon[edit | edit source]

An unoccupied Battle Armor 5 turned up at Elie while Rom Stol and Canary celebrated the defeat of Grujios. Quite why the suit hadn't been used moments before when the Jet Tribe and Battle Tribe were struggling against the Gyandlar captain's undead army isn't clear. The Demonic Castle - Farewell Grujios

Battle Suit[edit | edit source]

  • Battle Armor 5 (Battle Suit, 1984)
    • Parts: MR-CJ, MR-P1 Power Suit, MR-P2 Power Suit, MR-P3 Power Suit, MR-P4 Power Suit, Feet (2), Fists (2), Blaster Barrel, Blaster Handle, Small Blasters (2), Missiles
Only available in Japan as a boxed set, Battle Armor 5 includes all the components to complete the giant robot. The Command Jet and each of the Power Suits can hold selected figures from the Machine Robo series thanks to opening hatches and, in the case of the Power Suits, spring-loaded closing panels. The Command Jet converts into Battle Armour 5's torso and thighs, with the Power Suits forming the rest of the limbs. While both the arms and legs are interchangeable with each other instructions and box photography show P1 as the right arm, P2 as the left arm, P3 as the right leg and P4 as the left leg. The feet contain small spring-loaded missile launchers and have small opening compartments that can store the robot's fists inside; they can also store under the Command Jet's wings. Battle Armor 5 included a list of the Machine Robo which could fit in each suit; however this only covered figures available in Japan up to that point.

The European release featured no significant changes from the Japanese version. However later in the run Grungry replaced Battle Armor 5 inside the box as a running change, still using the Japanese/European stickers. This was possibly to dispose of GoBots overstock. The set was reissued in 1985 with a redesigned window box.

Notes[edit | edit source]

Battle Armor 5 in a TV Land diorama.
Power 5, completely above board.
  • Of the Machine Robo Series figures only Submarine Robo, Hot Rod Robo and Apollo Robo cannot fit in any part of Battle Armor 5.
  • At one stage it was planned to include a large shield accessory for Battle Armor 5.
  • Along with Land Commander 5, Battle Armor 5 would make an unexpected comeback in 1989 as part of the bizarre Korean movie Our Friend, Power 5, where they would interchange as the titular mech. Who was piloted by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. While largely live-action the film has a habit of switching to animation in lieu of special effects; some of the mech's scenes are blatantly traced from the Studio Pierrot promotional film, while at other points stop-motion of the toys appeared. The movie even had a toy produced - a multi-coloured Battle Armor 5 with chromed Turtle figures to fit inside. Needless to say licences were not acquired for any of this insanity...
